Living in a "Phu Thai" village

Posted by anonymous on August 29, 2009 at 10:46 PM

My name is David and I am from Australia. My wife is called Noi and she is "Phu Thai" Noi and I met some 9 years ago. I just loved her layback way of looking at life and we just hit it off. After moving to Sydney she adapted so well, but I could see she was missing her family and lifestyle in the village she came from. Time was right for a change in my life. This was a BIG change. We moved to the village located near the Mekong river at Mukdahan. This is the border crossing town to Savanakhet Lao. It was a huge cultural change for me but I felt comfortable and relaxed in a way I have never experienced before. We built "Thai House" styled after old Thai Style homes, we both have a fondness for the warmth of timber and spent some time studying the architicture of old thai buildings from books and magazines. We are truly proud of what has developed. It was after visits from friends that we decided to develop further the Guesthouse. Our goal is to create a small cultural village to showcase the "Phu Thai" culture. We are also aware of our responsibilty to the environment. We leave only a positive footprint in Isaan. We help villagers by suppling work and opportunities to sell local handicrafts. We organise cultural exhibitions such as dancing and singing concerts performed by local children. This all helps to encourage the retainment and development of the local culture.

The latest news from "Thai House Isaan"

We have had a busy three months. I have been back from Australia for over two months and had such a great time with my family. Pumpkin needed some special time and we also planted our rice crops. Unfortunately I have now had to return to resume caring for my mother. Noi is joining me in Australia at the begining of September and will be with me for three months. The Guesthouse will remain closed until January 2011 but I will update this side bar each month with the news.

"Thai House" really wants our Guests and Friends to experience a unique holiday when visiting us. It is with this in mind that we continue to develop and improve on our tours. It is fun for Noi and I to discover new venues and sites to show our Guests. We now have a better understanding of the richness that Isaan has in Dinosaur Fossils. We have added more to this fun tour and now include Wat Nimit, a truly amazing Temple located only 5 minutes from the Dinosaur Museum. Here are some pictures taken on tour. For further information please send me a message from this site or email me.

The Dinosaur Footprint. This amazing find is located at "Phu faek" national park, only 35 minutes from "Thai House" It is part of our "Walk with the Dinosaurs" tour
